Russian Federation
Russian Federation

My dream for Russia is that each town will have its own Evangelical church, that each pastor will be theologically educated, that each church will have its own place of worship, and that each citizen of Russia will receive the Good News."

            -- Rev. Peter Mitskevitch
               Rector, Moscow Theological Seminary
(pictured in top picture, front row, center)

This flagship seminary of the Russian Baptist Union was founded in 1993, with a current enrollment of approximately 541 on the main campus and six regional learning centers.

This month in St. Louis, Dr. Ian Chapman, president of the Moscow Theological Seminary board, and Dr. Ted Rodgers, executive director of the Russian Leadership Ministries (www.russianleadership.org), met with some of the leadership of FLF. Together they discussed compelling opportunities at Moscow Theological Seminary.

Pray for both organizations as they work together under the direction of the Holy Spirit to see how they can partner together in ways that will help the seminary as they produce future leaders.

Ukranian leadership event: You can be involved

One of the new strategic partners for the Future Leadership Foundation that God has brought is Yaroslav (Slavik) Pyzh and his family (below). At age 30, Slavik is beginning his final educational stage with a Ph.D. program at Southwestern Seminary, Fort Worth, TX.  He is currently academic dean of Ukrainian Baptist Theological Seminary, the only Ukrainian-speaking Baptist seminary in the country; he will become president upon the retirement of the current leader, Dr. Ivan Romanyuk.

Pyzh familySlavik will join four Americans in leading the All-Ukrainian Regional Pastors and Senior Leadership event, November 16-20 at the Skole, Ukraine, Retreat Center. (See more below.)

The event will address vision development and casting, strategic planning, change management and organizational leadership for 20 regional pastors and 5 national staff.

Specific emphasis will be on transforming the churches/people from a legalistic, inward focus to an outward, soul-winning focus.  During the week, each participant will develop his own plan to implement in their region so that churches can be more effective in reaching their communities for Christ.

A separate leadership track for spouses will focus on biblical women of influence to help them minister to local church pastors' wives.

FLF invites you to help sponsor a regional pastor and spouse for the entire week. The cost of a full week is a $300 contribution though we would be grateful for you to designate any amount. Send it to: Future Leadership Foundation, PO Box 105225, Jefferson City MO 65110. In response, we will partner you with a specific Ukrainian couple who will communicate back to you following their retreat.

For more information, call 866.652.5150, and press "1" at the prompt to reach FLF Executive Director Roger Hatfield, or by e-mail at rwh@flfmissions.org.

Can you help provide a vehicle?

Slavik Pyzh and his family could use the non-cash gift of a vehicle while in the Ph.D. program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; he expects to complete this in 2011. The Pyzhes need a multi-use family vehicle with seating for 7-8, either a Ford, Chevy, Toyota, or Honda product. They are also in need of a smaller car for around-town use, transporting four kids to school, etc.  The vehicles must be in very good shape with less than 150,000 miles.

The charitable donation would be to First Baptist Church, Ellisville, Missouri, who would handle the details and work with the donor on documents for IRS substantiation. Contact Mike Murray at 636.451.2254 (home) or 314.605.4840 (cell).

Meeting needs at Ukrainian Baptist Theological Seminary

Ukrainian Seminary president Dr. Ivan Romanyuk and academic dean Slavik Pyzh have requested Future Leadership Foundation's assistance in securing an intense week of training,  November 16-20.
  • The planned course has three tiers of training: Crown Financial's basic stewardship training
  • "Called to Honor," biblical studies in guiding the recompensing of church pastors and staff
  • "Mission, Vision and Work of the All-Age Sunday School"
Joe teachingRev. Emerson Swope, Discipleship and Senior Adults Pastor, Forest Park Baptist Church, Joplin, Mo., will be leading the training. He is an experienced coach that has served in a variety of Eastern European settings for the past 15 years.

Founded in 2001, the seminary has three campuses with approximately 90 students, four academic programs, three full-time national faculty, and a library of 10,000 volumes.

You may contribute to this week's expenses of approximately $300 per student for the 15 students in the session. Mail your check to Future Leadership Foundation, PO Box 105225, Jefferson City, MO 65110; note "Seminary Training" on the check.

This is a Union where there are more Baptists than in any other former Soviet republic. We are forever grateful to your generosity toward the development of these future leaders.

Thank you for our training

Vozian familyNicolae Vozian, associational missionary of the Chisinau region, was one of the participants in an October 2008 leadership coaching retreat. It involved eight other regional pastors and three national staff and their spouses.

Nicolae shares his appreciation for generous gifts that helped leaders be able to attend:

We would like to express our hearts gratitude for the financial support you've given to our family at this vision and mission conference.  For us this constructive seminar was a blessing from God.  I've learned more about the vision's importance in a pastor's service, we were able to debate and discuss many issues and, and also we prayed that God would give us vision to us and to Moldovan churches.  We also thank God for the pastors who have led the conference.

BHOM 6-09The Baptist Home announces that the $400,000 mark in the journey toward the $500,000 goal for the House of Mercy project has been surpassed!

There is approximately $15,000 remaining of the $50,000 matching money offered by The Baptist Home Foundation, effectively doubling your missions giving.  If you or your church have not yet participated in the matching gift or wish to make other contributions through the end of 2009 (or the depletion of matching funds), The Baptist Home Foundation will match that gift.

Gifts to the Baptist House of Mercy project can be sent to The Baptist Home, PO Box 87, Ironton MO 63650.  For questions, call 573.546.2709.

Plans are now set for the Baptist House of Mercy dedication on Saturday, June 26, 2010. A large number of Americans and Belarusians are expected to come together for worship, a tour and sharing praise. Costs will be announced and materials will be sent to those on the House of Mercy e-mail list.

An update is posted on YouTube at www.snipurl.com/BHOMupdate.

8-09 Anna Cozonac
Anna Cozonac, whose husband works for the Baptist Union of Moldova, writes her appreciation by saying, "Thank you a lot for your help. I am very glad that you want to come to Moldova. That is awesome.   I like very much this saying: 'If God guides, he provides'....Thank you for being a big blessing for my husband and me. I thank you so much for your help and love toward the children in the Republic of Moldova.  Because of you I can study and prepare better to serve Him and His people. Thank you so much for caring.

Projector appreciation

The Bible Institute of Minsk Theological Seminary has lost 47 percent of its funding sources since last fall.  A recent donation has allowed FLF to purchase a much-needed data projector for the Bible Institute in Belarus for their intense leadership training programs.  This is an incredible gift from a Kingdom visionary who saw fit to respond to the plea for this tool.
data projector
Long-time director Valentin Zdanevich communicated his thanks: I am very grateful to you for your support of children ministry in Belarus and your prayers.  With your help we were able to buy multimedia projector NEC NP62G ....We already used it for the first time during leadership meeting of children ministry. The image quality is very high. It allows using economical mode of the lamp, which increases its resource. We are determined to use the projector in work with Seminary students during Sunday school teachers training in Regional centers on Three Steps program. It is a wonderful opportunity to increase the quality of our work. It is wonderful that our joint efforts bring the glory to our Lord.

May the Lord bless you and meet all your needs.
